Are YOU the Next American Idol? Auditioning For American Idol

Unless you've been living in a cave for the last 8 years, everyone knows about American Idol. But to recap, American Idol is a TV show that has singers competing to win the coveted title of American Idol. The show was based on the English show Pop Idol and is still produced by British producers Ken Warwick and Simon Fuller, the producers of Pop Idol. The first American episode of American Idol debuted on June 11, 2002 and attracted the attention of millions of television viewers. The show's premise is to discover the best young singing talent in the country through a very televised nationwide search. The search is performed in six to seven cities every season and the candidates are filtered down to a few hundred from thousands. The contestants are further filtered into a Hollywood round and ultimately 24 contestants go to the semifinals of which 12 are males and 12 females and then filtered down to the final 12. Then the real down and dirty fun starts. Each week one contestant is eliminated from the bottom 3 until the last episode when only 2 are left standing. One will be the American Idol and the other is the runner up.

Many potential singers, young and not so young, dream about becoming the next American Idol and in the very early auditioning process you wonder what some contestants were thinking. It makes for a very funny show and Simon Cowell is famous for not holding back with his rather nasty quips when he thinks a contestant is just down right awful. If you can live through some really terrible and sometimes sad contestants, a few jewels have been discovered that would never have had the chance before. And in the end sometimes the true American Idol is not the real winner. Some of those who did not win the "American Idol" title have gone on to have much bigger careers than the ones that did. Apart from the singing talent one also needs to have the personality to win the competition. In addition to having a beautiful voice you need to have the rhythm and command over different tunes and knowing how to dance and move to the music is also a huge advantage over others who can't dance.

If you are planning on auditioning for American Idol make sure you read and, if possible, memorize the information provided on fox television's idol website. You can clear up many misconceptions by reading the frequently asked questions section. The eligibility criteria to get into the competition is that you should be a citizen or permanent resident of the country and you should be between the ages of 16 and 29.

The best advice from previous winners of American Idol to aspiring contestants is to really put everything you have into the song you are singing. You should feel the lyrics and that should come through on your face. Make sure you rehearse the songs you choose over and over again until you are perfect and can project confidence to the judges. Make them want to hear more from you.

You may be asked about your role models. Think about 2 or 3 people and fine tune your verbiage to come up with interesting words to describe them. Also dress well, be fashionable but be true to yourself. Be honest, respectful and truthful. Form in your mind a mini bio about yourself so when asked about yourself it will flow naturally. If possible, take a few voice-training classes. It will help in the long run.

Classic Movies From the 1980s That Earn Must Watch Status

A lot of people make derisory comments about the 1980's and knock the fashions, hairstyles etc. But you can't deny it was a decade that produced some great movies.

It recently occurred to me that many of the younger generation will never have seen many of these films. If you are younger than the mid twenties, you really should get the chance to see these great movies.

These movies still stand out today and their influences can be heavily seen in today's cinema. They are still great to watch today, nearly 30 years later.

Let's cut to the chase, these are 5 movies which I have loved since I first saw them. Give them a try yourself to see what I'm talking about.

A little movie which gained a huge cult following is set in Chicago, stars Christina Applegate among others, and is called Adventures in Babysitting. This is a great romp and is still very funny.

If you enjoy a good sports comedy, then Major League will suit you down to the ground. It was a big hit and two sequels followed. Neither sequel was as good as the first, but the original Major League was an absolute classic. With great acting from Charlie Sheen, Jake Berenger, and Ed Harris, this was both gripping and hilarious.

A truly iconic movie from the 1980's in the Breakfast Club. Starring many of the young stars of that era including Molly Ringwald, you will probably have heard of it even if you haven't gotten around to seeing it yet. This is a movie that really deserves the title 'classic' and so many people who grew up in that era still relate to this movie to this day.

A massive box office hit that every kid related to at the time was Ferris Bueller's Day Off. This is the tale of the kid who skipped school to take his buddy and girlfriend on a trip to Chicago. Every kid wanted to be Ferris Bueller and have the guts to do that for a day. If you have somehow missed out on seeing this, make the effort to see this cinematic treat.

Two hours of action and shoot em ups shouldn't make great cinema, but when the leading man is Bruce Willis in THAT vest, you will see why Die Hard was, and is, one of the greatest action movies of all time. They are still producing sequels to this these days, but for me, this is still the best.

Another area that Mark commonly writes about is the stainless steel utility cart. With so many rolling and wheeled utility carts on the market, choosing the best one can be a challenge and http://stainlesssteelutilitycart.com addresses this very point.

Who is Princess Tiana?

Princess Tiana Has Arrived. From the new Disney movie the Princess and the Frog, comes a young African-American girl living amid the charming elegance and grandeur of the fabled French Quarter. She's the new princess in town and her name is Princess Tiana. Unfortunately, she has to venture as the frog princess until her quest is fulfilled.

Without a doubt, Princess Tiana will be hailed as a positive role model for all young girls regardless of ethnic background. Kudos to Disney Studios for digging back to its roots and bringing us a movie that again shows us that "dreams can come true."

Princess Tiana is not your typical frog kissing Disney princess. She's a hard-working dreamer and not the type of person who'll wait for the star to fall out of the sky to grant her wishes. She's determined to make things happen and make her own dreams come true. That's what makes this turned frog princess so different.

Can't Stop Won't Stop This Frog Princess

The perseverance of Princess Tiana is expressed in the song "Almost There" were the young princess expresses to her mother Eudora the desire to open and transform an old rundown building into a beautiful happening restaurant. She goes on faith and the words of her father James, who taught her the importance of always holding on to her dreams.

Throughout the movie Princess Tiana appears in three different forms. She appears as little girl, a grown up and of course as a frog princess. This is where the movie gets good. Though logical in her pursuit to fulfill her life's goals and her Daddy's dream, Tiana can't seem to see the forest for the trees. She doesn't realize what's happening along the way.

Tiana proves her point in the song "Almost There" performed early on in the movie:

"I don't have time for dancing!
That's just gonna have to wait a while
Ain't got time for messing around,
And it's not my style.
This old town can slow you down
People taking the easy way

But I know exactly where I'm going
Getting closer and closer every day
And I'm almost there, I'm almost there
People down here think I'm crazy, but I don't care
Trials and tribulations, I've had my share.
There ain't nothing gonna stop me now, cause I'm almost there."

She is determined not to slow down and enjoy herself, such a focused young lady. Tiana is on a mission to get her restaurant. All that other stuff can wait. Romance is not even thought of and she's clearly not considering wasting her time salivating over a man. There's a few women out here that need to adopt this approach in some way in their lives (the man salivating part), but that's another topic.

Princess Tiana can't stand frogs. They're repulsive to her. She ironically meets Prince Naveen who has been tricked by the "Shadow man." and as luck would have it, became a frog prince. In his attempt to be charming, but completely starting off on the wrong foot (just like a man...ha-ha! Just kidding), he somehow convinces Tiana to kiss him. Unlike the result he or she expected, she turns into a frog herself (becoming the frog princess). How ironic for someone who hates frogs! She becomes taken over by her frog instincts and this is where their fun adventures begin.

Is Legally Downloading, Streaming, and Burning Full Length Movies Possible?

The answer to this question posed in the title of the article is yes, it can be legally performed. It is possible but you have to be very careful as there are sites offering free downloads and implying that it's legal to do so at their website when in fact they are violating copyright laws.

To perform legally downloading, streaming, and burning of movies you have to have a site that has a license for each movie offered that you want to obtain. If that site does not have a license to distribute that movie you will be held liable for copyright infringement that can result in a minimum fine of $750 and imprisonment for up to 5 years for each violation.

There is software that will enable you to capture and burn to DVD any movie you can download. The temptation is there for the taking. However it just is not worth the risks involved.

There are P2P websites that offer downloads of movies, software programs, & music. You are downloading those files from others who are members of the site, users just like you, who have files they are willing to share. Do you think they have a license from the developer of the software or the producers of the movie or music to distribute to members of the website?

There are sites who allow you to perform legally downloading, streaming, and burning of full length movies free of charge but those movies are usually older and are public domain titles that are in low demand and quite often poor quality.

To legally obtain good quality full length movies you will need to pay for a service. Many of the sites you will find charge a fee for each and every title you want. A few will offer you a monthly or yearly membership which is usually much more affordable especially if you want unlimited access to their library of films. Some offer streaming only, some will allow you to download and save to your hard drive the movie for future use, and a few may offer you a chance to burn the movie to DVD. It is very difficult to find a website that will allow you to do all 3 legally at a reasonable and affordable price.

There is one site that I found that offers high quality movies, great customer service, and an affordable 2 year membership to perform legally downloading, streaming, and burning of full length movies. That site is called Movies Capital. MoviesCapital.com is not a scam. It is the best site one can find for the die-hard movie fan. To find out more about the Movies Capital website and find out how to save 50% on the 2 year membership fee please go to one of my articles, Benefits of MoviesCapital.com Website or MoviesCapital.com Website Review for further exciting details.

The Best Picture Oscar Nominees For 2010

Hollywood is set to be busy in preparation for this year's Academy Awards. All film buffs will be eagerly awaiting the results to be read out on the 7th of March.

The most famed award, the most prestigious is the Oscar, and who will achieve it this year? There are many awards ceremonies throughout the year but this one is the most noteworthy of them all and it is this one that I shall be commenting on.

It is in the dreams of all directors to eventually win the best picture award. Winning such an award would see the future of the winning director set for further success with the security of budgets put aside for their next big hit.

Ten films this year have been nominated for the best picture award so following the race will be quite fun considering that there are more worthy contenders than usual.

Up, the Disney film of the year would be an unlikely win, even though it was a great film that moviegoers as well as critics really enjoyed.

An old man travels the world in a kind of house balloon with a child. It was a great film that came with a heart warming story and people are viewing Up as a possible award winner for this year Oscars.

The Coen Brothers came up with the film, A Serious Man, this was a dark comedy that people found to be excellent even though it didn't get to be a box office hit.

There is also Quentin Tarantino who gave us Inglorious Basterds. This was the movie that got Tarantino back on top form; if it doesn't see an Oscar this year, it may well get a best actor.

But Avatar by James Cameron is everyone's favourite to win this year's Oscar award as it brought something fresh to the screens of Hollywood.

Top 10 Romantic Comedies

What are the top 10 romantic comedies of all time? That's something most romantics would surely love to know so here is list which has been prepared by combining the box office earnings of these films from both domestic and international sources. How many have you seen?

Romantic comedy movies are a sub-group of romantic movies and are notable for being light-hearted and having plots that are often humorous. The path of true love may be thwarted, temporarily, by errors, accidents and coincidences, or by differences in social standing. 'Notting Hill' and 'Pretty Woman' are examples of romantic comedies.

The romantic comedies are contrasted with romantic drama, a further sub-group of romance films in which the main premise of the movie is concerned with the romantic attraction between the leading characters but not in a funny or humorous way. The attraction often causes them to struggle with significant questions about their lives, such as "should I remain with my current partner?" and "what am I doing with my life?" Dramatic impact is created by the emotional expression of those involved. 'Titanic' and 'The Notebook' are examples of romantic drama.

The listing below differs slightly from those top domestic earners as some which did well at home performed poorly at theaters in other countries. Others boosted their earnings considerably in the overseas market and greatly improved their ranking.

For instance, Pretty Woman, whilst 4th in domestic earnings, at $178 million, also pulled in a whopping $285 million in the foreign market to grab the top spot overall.

Overseas sales were also extremely important for Notting Hill (with Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts) as it earned 'only' $116 on the U.S. domestic market but more than double that ($248 million) internationally to leap up to 7th place.

The Top 10 Romantic Comedies - based on gross earnings (U.S. domestic + international):

1. Pretty Woman (1990) - $463 million
2. Sex And The City (2008) - $415 m
3. What Women Want ((2000) - $374 m
4 There's Something About Mary ((1998) - $370 m
5. My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) - $369 m
6. Hitch (2005) - $368 m
7. Notting Hill (1999) - $364 m
8. The Proposal (2009) - $315 m
9. Runaway Bride (1999) - $309 m
10. My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) - $299 m

The queen of romantic comedies is clearly Julia Roberts. She starred in four of the top 10 movies listed above - Pretty Woman (1990), Notting Hill (1999), Runaway Bride (1999) and My Best Friend's Wedding (1997). The 90s were clearly good for her. Cameron Diaz managed to star in two - There's Something About Mary (1998) and My Best Friend's Wedding (1997).

A high production budget is not always a guarantee of success, nor is it a good indicator as Pretty Woman had a budget of only $14 million - Julia Roberts was relatively unknown at the time and her fee for that movie was only $300,000, being mainly known for her role in Steel Magnolias (1989). She was not the first choice for the lead in Pretty Woman, gaining the role only after a number of other, better known, actresses had turned it down as 'too sexist' or 'degrading to women'.

Another movie which far surpassed expectations was My Big, Fat Greek Wedding (2002). It had a budget of only $5 million and earned $241 million at the U.S. box office alone (far surpassing Pretty Woman on $178 million), more than any other romantic comedy. It also earned a respectable $127 million in overseas sales. While not as successful internationally as Pretty Woman (which managed $285 million), it allowed MBFGW to secure the number 5 spot for a modest outlay.

Romantic comedies are hugely popular with the cinema going public, as well as home viewers. A list of the top-rated and successful romantic movies can be a very useful guide in viewer selection.

Who Built Pandora?

Roger Dean has been an; architect, graphic designer and the most prolific album cover designer of the 1970's and 80's. Rogers connection with music started only a few years out of art college in 1970 when he started designing logos and images for Richard Branson, who at the time was starting up Virgin Records.

Rogers style of distinct detail in his work makes every inch of a picture interesting. After his graduation from art college in 1968, Rogers first book, 'Views' was released in 1975 and received a brilliant reception as a showcase of his early works.

Views, along with Magnetic Storm in 1985 and later Dragons Dream in 2008 have been aspirational books that have shown the true extent of Rogers talents in the construction of epic landscapes, striking worlds and truly wonderful characters.

Any fan of his work would have seen the startling contrast between Rogers work and that of the new film from James Cameron, Avatar. The film has broken box office records, being the highest netting film ever. With a global turn over in excess of $TWO Billion, the film has already won several awards and has been hailed a true adventure epic.

However, the question remains, what was the inspiration for this incredible film. The links to Roger Deans work can be seen in the floating islands and dragons that dominate the startling scenery of Pandora, the world where the story is set.

Its seems very hard to distinguish between drawing inspiration from another artists work or simply taking their entire concept without permission. It is undecided which it is, or if it is either. There can be no mistake, James Cameron is a brilliant Director and Roger Dean an inspirational artist.
